Kangaroo jumps are no longer the privilege of seasoned gymnasts and dreamers with their head in the clouds. To prove it could be done practically without hesitation, we visited the biggest trampoline park in Europe.
An experience lived by Ndeye
“We’ve worked up a sweat but we’re thrilled to have played at spiderwoman on this bouncy adventure.”
So there we were, my friend and I, on our way to You Jump at Palaiseau, ready to test their activities and get the adrenalin flowing, exhilarated at the thought of our imminent acrobatics and the shivers they would send down our spine as we dared to go higher and higher!
On entering, we discover an enormous space of 4,500 m² and a total of nearly 200 trampolines of all sizes, inviting us to join the children and teenagers running all over the place. Besides the trampolines (and foam pits), the park also features an indoor ropewalk course covering 600 m², raised more than 10 metres above the floor, with 3 levels of difficulty. Then there’s the basket dunk and even a ninja warrior trail.
First of all, take note: each activity zone is supervised by watchful staff who are quick to intervene when over-excited visitors get carried away with enthusiasm! There’s a refreshment area right by the entrance where parents or accompanying adults can sit and watch their youngsters from a distance, or treat them to a snack when they’ve finished jumping around.
Before going to the different zones, it is compulsory to wear non-slip socks to avoid skids and falls. (These are on sale at the reception desk for 3 euros a pair). Next, we’re directed towards the lockers which are protected by a digital code to memorise before placing our belongings inside for greater freedom to enjoy the activities.
Once we’ve left our things and put on our socks, off we go for a compulsory 5-minute pre-trampoline warm-up session with a coach who demonstrates the various movements we can try. To avoid accidents, he explains the safety rules: no running around the trampolines, only one jumper per trampoline and no taking off your socks!
At last, the fun can begin!
We immediately head for the 200 trampolines. It only takes a few seconds for us to enjoy the pleasant sensation of taking off. With big smiles on our faces, we have a fabulous time, fits of laughter mixed with admiring glances towards the foam pit where backflips and other acrobatic figures are suddenly free from danger.
To complete our kangaroo experience, we decide to try another activity, the ropewalk. Here, equipped with a harness and securely attached to the continuous lifeline, it’s easy to take height. A few minutes after leaving the ground, before you know it you’re eight metres up…
We’ve worked up a sweat but we’re thrilled to have played at spiderwoman on this bouncy adventure.
